Book a bespoke heritage tour

Explore the history and architecture of our historic 21, Albemarle Street home with an expert member of our Collections and Heritage team, and discover the stories behind our museum displays.

Our Collections and Heritage team runs tours of the building and the Faraday Museum for groups of 10–40 people.

Tours start on the first floor, where the displays relate to the theme of communication.

The tour includes a visit to our historic Theatre (provided it is not being used at the time of the tour) where the CHRISTMAS LECTURES are recorded.

Next is the ground floor, which covers the past and present activities of the Royal Institution.

And finally, the lower ground floor, which is devoted to the history of scientific discovery.

Tour details

Tours usually last 1.5–2 hours but can be shorter if necessary. Tour timings can be arranged with the Collections and Heritage team.

Prices

£15 per person (for groups of ten people or more).

For groups of less than ten there is a flat rate of £150.

It may be possible to add smaller groups or individuals to existing tours at the per head rate, but this can’t be guaranteed.

How to book

Arrange a booking by contacting the Collections and Heritage team.

Please Note: we do not currently run tours at weekends or in December due to the CHRISTMAS LECTURES. Because it is a working building and is in constant use, it may not be possible to visit every part of the building, but every effort will be made to make the tour as comprehensive as possible.
