FAQs
Your welcome pack, including your membership card, should reach you within 10 days. Your membership number is on your membership card and also in your confirmation email. You can use this to book your free and half-price event tickets.
It may take up to six weeks to collect your payment for your subscription, depending on the date the Direct Debit arrangement has been set up.
Your membership is active from the date of purchase or the date you specified when purchasing a membership, and you can start using it straight away.
All our events are listed on the website. Choose the member ticket when booking and enter your membership number when prompted. Your membership number is included in your confirmation email or membership card. Bring your membership card with you when you attend the event.
Members will be sent a unique link to book CHRISTMAS LECTURES® tickets in the autumn. Tickets are issued first-come first-served.
The main Theatre is reserved 11-17 year olds with adult screening rooms available throughout the building.
Members can book one child ticket using their membership. Any additional children will need their own Young Membership or be named as part of your Family Membership.
We are an independent charity which receives no public funding. Your membership fee greatly contributes to the sustainable operation of the Royal Institution, preserving our heritage and inspiring future generations to think more deeply about science and its place in our lives. We are committed to enabling access for as many people as possible.
We offer a discounted membership rate for under 30's. If you are aged 30 or over and experiencing permanent or temporary hardship either through living with a disability and/or being on low-income/unwaged we may be able to offer you a reduction in membership fees.

We'll send you a renewal notice email 28 days before your renewal date with instructions on how to renew. If your membership has already expired you can renew it through the Membership Portal.
To cancel your membership please email membership@ri.ac.uk or cancel your Direct Debit with your bank.
We're unable to claim Gift Aid on membership subscriptions due to the high value of benefits provided.
You may make a donation in addition to your membership subscription to which Gift Aid provisions apply, as a charity we are able to claim 25p on top of every £1 made as a donation to us. These provisions also apply to the donation portion of Patron subscriptions.
