The Royal Institution today announced that former Ri Trustee, Lucinda Hunt, has been appointed Director of the Ri on an interim basis, with effect from 13 January 2020.

Having overseen various positive developments over the last two years the Ri’s current Director, Dr Shaun Fitzgerald, has stepped back from day to day leadership to focus on his long-standing passion to help address climate change.  Shaun will formally leave the Ri in June this year, six months before his fixed term contract was due to end and will continue to support the Ri in the meantime.

Lucinda Hunt has a long association with the Ri and a strong background in education and organisational leadership, most recently as Head at Notting Hill and Ealing High School GDST.

Lucinda said: “As a passionate advocate of both science and education I am delighted to have this opportunity to lead the Ri in its inspirational work, encouraging people to think more deeply about science and its place in our lives. I am very much looking forward to working with the Ri’s talented staff to help deliver its five-year strategy for growth.”

Ri Trustees will begin the process of recruiting Shaun’s permanent successor in due course.
