Secondary Masterclass students

Each summer we have special Celebration Events for secondary Masterclass attendees. Students will receive an invitation at the end of their Masterclass series. The events are an opportunity to find out more about different topics within the subject and for students to meet other Masterclass attendees from around the country.

We have a Masterclass Alumni Newsletter for students who have attended Masterclasses, full of more ways to continue your involvement in the subjects.

Depending on the area you live in, you may be invited to attend Masterclasses again.

If you have been to Masterclasses we would love to hear your story.

There are many ways you can stay in touch with the Royal Institution and the Masterclass network. For example, you can become an Ri Member, get involved with future series as an organiser, speaker or helper, or find out more about  our Masterclass alumni club. We have a range of events and opportunities for young people, families and the general public; look at our events calendar for more information.

If you wanted to do more at home, there is a lovely website called NRICH which has lots of puzzles and other things to do.

Depending on where you are based, it is likely that your next opportunity to attend Masterclasses will be in year 8 or 9 (for England and Wales), S2 or S3 (for Scotland).  If you want to make sure that your secondary school is involved, ask your maths teacher to have a look at our site or get in touch with us.

Students in and around London will have the opportunity to attend our annual celebration day here at the Ri.

There are lots of places you can look online for things to do at home or to keep you up-to-date on what is happening with the different applications of these subjects.

See our resources page for more things to do.  We recommend NRICH and Wild Maths if you like trying mathematical challenges and puzzles at home.

To all our Masterclass students, we hope that you enjoyed the sessions, met some like-minded people and discovered inspiring new applications of maths, engineering and computer science.

If you have attended Masterclasses and would like to learn more about the following opportunities to engage with your Masterclass subject such as Masterclass Celebration Days and Masterclasses for older students, or to sign up for our Alumni Newsletter, please get in touch via

Extending your interest

You may be interested in becoming an Ri Young Member - check out our membership page for more details on what this means and the benefits.

Many of the professional bodies in mathematics, engineering or computer science have categories of membership for young people or dedicated newsletters. Other organisations offering enrichment activities or support to teacher have their own resources too - try speaking to your teachers for suggestions, or if you are a former Masterclass student you can sign up to our Masterclass Alumni newsletter.

You could also take your Masterclasses further by doing your own project in a subject which interests you; check out the British Science Association’s CREST Awards scheme, and all of the opportunities offered by the external schemes which link to it.
