Royal Institution announces new partnership to enrich and enhance STEM teaching

Today we are announcing an exciting new partnership with STEM Learning, to take the STEM Directory developed by the Royal Institution (Ri), to brand new audiences across the UK.

The STEM Directory was developed by the Ri to make extra-curricular activities available to teachers, to enhance the teaching of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in schools and colleges across the UK. Available online, teachers can search the Directory by subject, age and location and can use the reviews left by other teachers to help them choose an activity.

The Partnership with STEM learning, which will see the Directory hosted at www.stem.org.uk is an opportunity to take the valuable resource to many more teachers. Teachers can also apply for the Royal Institution’s STEM Enrichment and Enhancement (E&E) grants, designed to help integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities into school practice and to support teachers’ professional development. Applications open on Monday 25 September and close on Tuesday 31 October.

Professor Gail Cardew, Director of Science and Education at the Royal Institution, said:

“The STEM Directory has successfully connected thousands of school children with activities that have enriched their learning, helping to inspire a lifelong interest in science. We are delighted to be working in partnership with STEM Learning and look forward to receiving many applications for our grants to support schools less able to afford the cost of enhanced activities.”

Gill Collinson, Head of Centre and Partnerships for STEM Learning, said:

“The STEM Directory a hugely valuable source of enrichment and enhancement activities to inspire teachers and technicians across the UK, and STEM Learning is delighted to be taking this invaluable repository of activities forward.”
