Design an Emoji for Prof Sophie Scott

Paul Wilkinson

How to submit

Click here to submit your design via our Tumblr blog. You must read and agree to our Terms & Conditions before submitting your design.

You can draw your design by hand or on the computer, and submit it as an image file.

Emojis are changing the way we communicate online. We’re all using them and we all have our favourites. But sometimes there’s a situation, feeling or object that doesn’t have an emoji and it really needs one.

Terms and conditions

Please make sure you read our full Terms & Conditions carefully, and accept them before submitting your design.

The most important points are that if you are under the age of 13, your parent or guardian must submit your design for you. If you are aged 13 or over but are under 18, then you must have your parent or guardian’s permission to submit an emoji.

Your design must be your own work, and must not include any photographs of people.

Closing date

The closing date is 5pm, Friday 5 January. You’ll start to see emojis featured on the Ri website and social media from 1 December onwards. So be sure to check back to see if yours has made it into the emoji hall of fame.

This year’s CHRISTMAS LECTURES are by the amazing Sophie Scott, who is an expert in communication. Sophie and everyone at the Royal Institution would love you to show us what emoji you think should exist, and tell us why.

Simply draw your design for an emoji that doesn’t exist and submit it to us via ri-emoji.tumblr.com and the Ri team will choose our favourites to appear on this website, our social media, and maybe even on TV during the CHRISTMAS LECTURES.

Building closures from 9 December onwards

We are closed on the 10 and 12 December, along with other closures during the week starting 9 December, full details here.
