This talk will make you a scientist, Yes, YOU!

Join scientist and author Sheila Kanani as she introduces you to 25 inspiring scientists from throughout history. You may already know physicist Albert Einstein and astronaut Mae Jemison, but have you heard of volcanologist Katia Krafft or Tapputi-Belatekallim, the world’s first recorded chemist?

Combining fascinating facts with hands-on experiments and demonstrations, this super interactive and inspiring event will spark curiosity and creativity. Children will leave excited to use their imaginations — and ready to head home and create their very own experiments!

A copy of Sheila’s new book ‘This Book Will Make You a Scientist’ will be available for purchase and signing after the talk. 

Event type

This is a theatre only event where the speakers and audience are together in our Theatre.

About Sheila Kanani

Dr Sheila Kanani MBE is a planetary scientist, EDI consultant, space educator and author, with a background in astrophysics and astronomy research from UK universities. 

She regularly acts as a science ambassador, visiting schools and speaking at events, and is an advocate for diversity in physics and astronomy.

 Sheila runs her company Her Place For Space from home, and enjoys walking on her local beach with her family of boys, playing sports, gazing at the stars, reading and eating (preferably reading whilst eating!).

Timing

Doors to the theatre will open at 2.15pm and the talk will begin at 2.30pm.

Accessibility

The event will take place on the first floor and there is step-free access from the street via lift.

The closest underground station is Green Park, which is step-free.

There is space at floor level in the theatre for wheelchair users.

Seating is usually unreserved for our events. If you and your group require seating reservations, please do let us know by emailing us at events@ri.ac.uk, and we’ll be more than happy to help.

Carers can receive a free ticket to an event by emailing events@ri.ac.uk.

Our theatre is equipped with an Audio Induction Loop.
