Can orange juice really ward off the common cold? How does age affect our immune system and is mental health really connected to inflammation? We’re surrounded by bold claims and quick fixes for ‘boosting’ our immune system. But one thing the science is certain of, is that everyone’s immune system is just as unique as they are. What’s good for one person may not work for another.

So how do we separate bogus claims from useful advice? And given its sheer complexity, is there anything we can do to truly improve our immune system? World-leading immunologist Daniel M. Davis helps us unpick the complex science behind the stories with some of the very latest research findings from his lab at Imperial College London.

Daniel will outline his pioneering methods for imaging the immune system in unprecedented detail and show how this has seeded ideas for new medicines. Plus, he'll examine the effects of stress, diet, age, exercise, the microbiome, and more on the immune system. He’ll puncture key myths, sort fact from fiction, and help equip us to make informed decisions for ourselves.

Copies of Daniel's book "Self Defence: A Myth-busting Guide to Immune Health" will be available to purchase after the talk.
