Join us for an evening of science talks by LGBTQ+ speakers, colourful demos and hands-on activities including badge making and more.

Your evening will start in the Ri Theatre where you will hear from Gabriel (Gab) Astorga as he traces the origins and evolution of pathogens from animal hosts to humans using phylogenomics.

Pride in STEM small grant scheme winners will follow in a lightning round showcasing their exciting work expanding the reach of science to LGBTQ+ communities.

Continue to enjoy the evening with talks and activities that cover a multitude of science topics, including presentations by Sarah Cosgriff, Kate Holmes and Hana Ayoob.

Pride in STEM small grant winners

  • Science and Sorcery: an all-queer team of experienced science collaborators and performers who run tabletop role playing games shows (e.g. Dungeons and Dragons).
  • British Ecological Society: home to six community-led networks, each focusing on a different marginalised group. Their aim is to develop and implement collaborative solutions to the intersectional barriers faced by minoritised ecologists.
  • Code with Pride: introducing working class LGBTQ+ individuals to the fundamentals of programming through interactive workshops.
  • Wet & Wild: Queer Marine Ecologies: an initiative where queer marine biology and ecology workshops in the Hebridies, Cornwall, and lecture in Cheltenham will take place, along with the creation of a Discord server to host a community of LGBTQIA+ “oceanically curious” folk.
  • People’s Health Imagination Lab: aiming to address gaps in healthcare that are caused by climate change issues in the UK and to have a more open dialogue between informed doctors and concerned patients.
