Premier screening of 'Last exit: Space'

Join us for a premier physical viewing of the documentary 'Last exit: Space', written and directed by Rudolph Herzog.

Experience 'Last Exit: Space' in the iconic theatre at the Royal Institution.

Narrated by Werner Herzog, this documentary explores the competitive space race, whether we've outgrown our planet and what the future of space colonisation may hold.

The film will run for 85 minutes and is followed by a 30 minute conversation between Rudolph Herzog and the film’s Technical Advisor Calum Hervieu. There will be time for audience questions afterwards.

This is a theatre only event where the speakers and audience are together in our Theatre.

About Rudolph Herzog

Rudolph Herzog is an award-winning director, producer and writer. His BBC/ARD documentary on humour in the Third Reich sold internationally and his book 'Dead Funny' on the same subject was named a book of the year by 'The Atlantic'.

His second book, the critically acclaimed 'Short History of Nuclear Folly' was published in the UK, the US and Canada. A documentary by Rudolph based on the book was featured on Arte and Netflix. He helmed a National Geographic special on polar explorer Roald Amundsen and 'The Agent' on the spy Werner Stiller.

Rudolph is currently expanding into fiction with his feature film 'How To Fake A War', starring Katherine Parkinson and Jay Pharoah, released in the US (Vertical/Amazon Prime) and UK (Sky Cinema), and his book 'Ghosts of Berlin' published internationally.

About Calum Hervieu

Calum Hervieu is the Flight Dynamics Team Lead at OneWeb, a Low Earth Orbit constellation of 648 satellites providing internet across the globe. He previously worked as a Mission Analyst for lunar missions at Planetary Transportation Systems, Berlin, - a New Space company aiming to be the first private company to land a spacecraft on the Moon.

He holds a master’s degree in Astrophysics from the University of Edinburgh and another in Space Exploration Systems from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, supported by the European Space Agency. He has far reaching experience working across exploration missions from the European Astronaut Centre, Germany, to the NASA-funded Hawai’I Space Exploration Analog and Simulation on the Island of Hawai’i, USA.”

Timing

Doors to the theatre will open at 6.00pm. The event will begin at 6.30pm.

The film is 85 minutes long. This will then be followed by a 30 minute conversation, and then a chance for questions from the audience. 

Accessibility

The event will take place on the first floor and there is step-free access from the street via lift.

The closest underground station is Green Park, which is step-free.

There is space at floor level in the theatre for wheelchair users.

Seating is usually unreserved for our events. If you and your group require seating reservations, please do let us know by emailing us at events@ri.ac.uk, and we’ll be more than happy to help.

Our theatre is equipped with an Audio Induction Loop. 

Covid guidelines

Face masks are no longer mandatory and wearing one in our Theatre and at other Ri events is at your discretion, however please do not attend the Ri if you are displaying Covid symptoms or, if you have tested, the result remains positive. Thank you for respecting other people and their choices, and for helping us keep all of our visitors and staff safe and well.
