Lecture 3 – You are what you eat

There’s an old saying that ‘you are what you eat’. John Krebs’ third lecture explores how the foods you eat are turned into you. Your whole body is made of the food you eat; a living record of the meals you’ve had and the exercise you’ve done. With the help of demonstrations, experiments, and some of the audience’s hair, this lecture shows that when we say ‘you are what you eat’, it’s really true.

About the 2005 CHRISTMAS LECTURES

John Krebs’ 2005 series delved into a topic as relevant today as it was then: food. From the food of our evolutionary ancestors to the meals of the future, the lectures explore what food means to humans. What makes food delicious? Why have we evolved to prefer some foods to others? Are we really what we eat, and how concerned should we be about the future of food?
