About Geoffrey Austin

I have had an executive career of over 30 years in corporate finance. For most of my career I have focused on media, entertainment and communications companies and so have a good understanding of the key commercial elements of the sector in which the Ri operates.

I am a Managing Director at Moelis, the leading independent investment bank. Previously I was a Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Media and Communications at Deutsche Bank; prior to that I worked at Hambros Bank

I also have extensive non-profit experience from the Eden Trust, the Childline Board of the NSPCC and Oriel College, Oxford, all registered charities with educational relevance.

From 2017 to 2026 I was a Trustee of the Eden Trust, an educational charity responsible for the Eden Project in Cornwall. As a member of the Finance Committee I was involved in much work relevant to the Ri, particularly the fundraising for Eden Morecambe. My role as a member of the Childline Board of the NSPCC since 2009, while focused mainly on fundraising, has also involved involvement in outreach and education with the intention of preventing harm to children. As a member of the Campaign Board and Honorary Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford, I have focused on increasing the endowment of an educational institution established in 1326.

From childhood I have been a keen viewer of the Ri’s Christmas lectures and my choice of science A levels and degree in Chemistry was at least in part influenced by the Ri. As a parent I have visited the Ri with my children often and always found the experience to be rewarding

I therefore have much relevant finance and charity experience to offer, and an enthusiasm for science and education that I very much enjoy bringing to the Ri. It is a privilege to be an Ri Trustee.

I hold an M.A. from Oriel College, Oxford, and attended the Corporate Finance Programme at London Business School.
