Event description

Maths Tricks to Blow Your Mind is a frantic hour of mind-bending maths, interactive demos and wicked humour from award-winning science communicator and entertainer Kyle D Evans (Leicester Comedy Festival best show nominee 2020, Swindon Fringe best stand-up winner 2018, Famelab UK winner 2016.)

What is 4% of 75? Can you calculate 60 + 60 x 0 + 1? Which is bigger, an 18-inch pizza or two 12-inch pizzas?

From the infamous 'Hannah's sweets' exam question to percentages 'life-hacks', viral maths problems seem to capture the public's imagination without fail. In his new book Maths Tricks to Blow Your Mind, Kyle presents a veritable smorgasbord of viral maths problems with background information, explanations and solutions to similar problems, all in a humorous, accessible and inclusive manner.

Kyle spent lockdown studying these viral maths puzzles and has distilled his findings into an hour of head-scratching yet engaging and inclusive maths-based entertainment. Expect jokes, songs and mind-blowing maths galore.

This event is particularly suitable for ages 13+

About the speaker

Kyle D Evans is a comedian, musician, teacher and writer who has taken entertaining maths shows to all corners of the UK, from London Science Museum to Edinburgh Fringe (where his 2019 show was featured on BBC Breakfast.) He is a regular guest on BBC Radio 4’s More or Less and is probably the only person to have had a song about the Riemann Hypothesis turned into a local radio jingle. Maths Tricks to Blow Your Mind is his third book, and his first for adults.
