Knowing how to Google something doesn't make us search experts; there's much more we can do to access the massive collective knowledge available online.
This talk explores how you don't have to be computer geeks or a scholar searching out obscure facts; you just need to know some basic methods.
Join computer scientist and Senior Research Scientist at Google Daniel Russell who will show us how we can all be great online researchers.
Please note this event starts later than normal.
Daniel Russell works at Google where he writes. Sometimes internal reports, sometimes papers for scientific publication, and sometimes books for everyone.
He's a practicing scientist. That means he experiments and analyzes. He does field studies and tries to understand what makes Google users tick.
Why do they sometimes query Google and then not click on anything?
Why do some Google users only ask one query, while others can go on and on?
What's different about their search experiences?
Why? This is what drives his work: What do people search for? How do they do it? How do they understand and use what they've found.
The doors will open at approximately 7.00pm, with a prompt start at 7.30pm. There will be time for questions after the talk.
Latecomers will be admitted into the gallery.
Copies of Daniel's book, 'The Joy of Search: A Google Insider's Guide to Going Beyond the Basics', will be available for purchase and signing after the talk.
