Event description

In this workshop with Nikoleta Kalaydzhieva, students will explore the intriguing world of mathematical shapes, known as topology.

Students will see how 3D shapes can have only one side, and what interesting things you can find when you cut these shapes up. They will also investigate ideas of orientation, what it means for two shapes to be connected, and even extend their thinking out into the fourth dimension.

About the speaker

Nikoleta Kalaydzhieva is a PhD student in Maths at UCL, doing research in number theory. As well as giving masterclasses at the Ri, she is involved in lots of outreach activities at UCL. She is also an associate of the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP) and part of the team behind Chalkdust magazine.

In her spare time, Niki enjoys dancing bachata, kizomba and salsa.

Please note

This workshop is strictly for 7–9 year-olds. Students should bring a drink, pens, pencils and a calculator.

Discounted tickets are available to Ri Members. Find out more about how to join.
