Event description

Tickets for this event are now sold out. There will only be very limited tickets available for sale on the door.

Just in time for Halloween, get stuck into a day of devilishly fun science at the Ri, with hands-on experiments, demonstrations and talks from spooky scientists. Dressing up is encouraged, with bonus points for science themes!

Family Fun Day activities are suitable for 6-12 year olds though older and younger siblings are also very welcome. All under 18-year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

Entrance for Ri Young Members is free, but please book your free place.

Dan Plane - Pumpkins, flames and Frankenstein
11.30am, 1.15pm, 2.45pm
Join the Ri’s science presenter Dan Plane for a tour of the exciting science hiding behind Halloween. Bodies will disappear, ghost will be summoned, and some pumpkins might even be made to explode… It wouldn’t be a family fun day without a few explosions in the theatre now, would it!

Sara Goodacre - Spiders are amazing!
12.15pm, 2.00pm, 3.30pm
Spiders are one of the biggest phobias in the UK, but there is so much to love about these amazing and interesting creatures. Sara Goodacre from the University of Nottingham will show us some of the amazing things spiders can do, from flying high up in air like small kites, to shedding their skin, making material stronger than steel and even using their legs as sails to travel with the wind!

Make blood the chemical way, look inside an eyeball and even design your own monster in our hands-on activities around the building. Also try our activities from our friends from the Royal Veterinary College, University College London, Chelsea Physic Garden, The University of Nottingham and Johnson Matthey.

Please note

All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

More details regarding the talks and activities at the event will be released in the coming weeks.

We advise booking tickets in advance because we have been known to sell out up to a week before the event.
