With a rapidly growing population, increasing affluence and a demand for ever greater convenience, our appetite for transport continues to grow. Set against a backdrop of our changing climate and fear about the security of our energy resources, how will engineers keep us moving in the future? In this workshop with Gavin Harper, students will look at future power sources for our transport network and have the chance to build their own hydrogen fuel cell car, producing hydrogen and examining how a clean energy future could be enabled with the help of new technologies.
Gavin Harper is Development Manager for the Birmingham Energy Institute. He completed his PhD at Cardiff Business School which focused on Ultra–Low Emission Vehicles. He continues to be interested in how we can transition to more sustainable technologies with a particular focus on the transition to more sustainable technologies in mobility. He has written a number of books which aim to make complex technologies practical and accessible.
This workshop is strictly for 13–15 year–olds and will include a 45 minute supervised lunch break. Students will not be able to leave the building at lunch time unless permission is given at the time of booking. Students should bring lunch and a drink, pens and pencils.
This workshop is based on an Ri Engineering Masterclass. Students who have attended a Masterclass series which included a session on a similar topic may have already seen some of the content in this workshop. Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
