Before his appointment to the Royal Institution, Vincent worked as a translator and editor for the publishers Gilbert and Rivington. While at the Ri he produced a new printed catalogue of the library as well as new editions of Haydn's Dictionary of Dates and Dictionary of Biography. A Sandemanian like Michael Faraday, he made his confession of faith in 1832, was a Deacon from 1844 and an Elder in the Church from 1849 to 1864.
