It may be all around us but can you paint with light? Do you know how to start a chemical reaction before your eyes just using light? And have you made your own camera using cardboard and a tin can? From incredible lasers to rainbows and a small house of mirrors, this Family Fun Day will have you exploring light in a new way altogether, in celebration of the International Year of Light.
Activities will include:
Explore the magic of kaleidoscopes
Turn your world upside down with our special glasses
Paint with light
Discover why purple isn't real
Throw some coloured flames with our chemistry flame tests
An illuminating show all about the science of light, from banknote security to finding Aliens. We discover colours that you cannot see, look at holes in the rainbow and find an innovative use for sun-tan lotion!
Show times: 11.30am, 1.15pm, 3.30pm
Sunlight and little drops of water produce one of the most beautiful things that we can see, the colours of the rainbow. But behind those colours there are hidden mysteries. Did you know that stars have also rainbows? Did you know what those star rainbows can tell us? Can you guess? Think about what you are made of, think about alien systems of planets, think about how old is the entire Universe, so all this and more.
After this talk your rainbows will be more beautiful than ever.
Show times: 12.15pm, 2pm, 3.30pm
