Students have the chance to get hands-on and make their own bath bombs and lip balms whilst learning some fundamental chemistry.
This workshop is designed for students between the ages of 7 and 10 years old, and lasts for around 4 hours with a 40 minute break for lunch (not provided).
The maximum group size is 28.
They will investigate the difference between acidic and alkaline solutions and, by mixing the two, how they can neutralise each other in a reaction by forming a salt. The workshop allows them to observe the properties of oils and waxes and how they are able to dissolve into one another, giving them a better understanding of the chemical processes behind the manufacture of toiletries such as bath bombs and lip balms.
This workshop is a great introduction to pH, neutralisation, solubility and changes of state.
