Michael Faraday spent most of his working life at the Royal Institution, where he made many important scientific discoveries. Outside the laboratory he took on responsibilities in running the organisation and giving lectures. As one of the leading members of the scientific community, he was also frequently invited to provide scientific advice to the state.
