Family fun day - Kitchen Chemistry

  • Family Friendly
  • Saturday 5 June 2010
  • Drop in between 11:00am and 4.00pm

A fun-filled day of hands-on science activities using things that you can find in your kitchen. Pick up ideas of stuff to try out at home. Enjoy captivating talks about 'un-kitchen chemistry', featuring the kind of experiments and explosions you definitely can't try at home!

Turn your hand to making ice cream, using salt instead of a freezer. See if you can make spaghetti break into only 2 pieces, and why your toast always lands butter side down. Help eggsland in our atrium safely, and see our alien liquid dance for you.

Talks in the theatre will give a whole new meaning to the term frozen foods. You'll also see jelly babies made to scream and some explosive foods.

If you still have some time left over from all the fun, why not take an interactive tour of our exhibition using our hand held eGuides? They're free, fun and easy to use and will give you a glimpse into the wonders of the Ri, past and present.

Family Fun Day activities are suitable for 5-14 year olds though everyone is welcome. Tickets costs £5 for adults and £3 for under 18s. Entrance for Faraday Members and under 3s is free. Ri Full Members are entitled to bring two accompanying children free. Free members tickets can only be booked by calling the Events Team on 020 7409 2992, but you can also just turn up on the day.
