Prof Alan Maries
Alan has been a Member of the RI since 1973, and has served on the Visitors' Committee, Audit Committee, and Board of Trustees. He has been Honorary Secretary since 2004.
After graduating as a chemist, he spent much of his career as a research scientist in academia and industry, with interests ranging from glass and ceramics to cement and concrete technology. Latterly, he was employed in the construction industry as an environmental consultant and site manager on major infrastructure projects, and now manages collaborative research in the minerals extraction and related sectors. He is currently Visiting Professor in Environmental Technology at the Centre for Contaminated Land Remediation at the University of Greenwich, and a Principal Research Associate at the Centre for CO2 Technology in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL, where his research focuses on synthesis in molten salts and the sequestration of carbon dioxide in industrial minerals.
