RI History

The Royal Institution was founded in March 1799 with the aim of introducing new technologies and teaching science to the general public. The RI moved to our current premises at 21 Albemarle Street a few months later and has been here ever since. RI has been promoting and teaching science for over two centuries and it has also been the home of famous scientists, such as Michael Faraday, who have helped shape the modern world.
