Maths and Engineering masterclasses

Ri maths and engineering masterclasses are hands-on and interactive extracurricular sessions led by top experts from academia and industry for keen and talented young people all around the UK.

The programme was started by Prof Sir Christopher Zeeman in 1981 after the popularity of his Ri Christmas Lectures on mathematics. You can watch the re-digitised lectures from 1978 on the Ri Channel.

The sessions are so unique and inspiring because they go beyond the school curriculum and bring to life the maths and engineering in such surprising topics as art and sculpture, computer science, fashion, medicine and cryptography.

The masterclasses aim to open the eyes of young people to the excitement, beauty and value of mathematics, and in turn, inspire the next generation of scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
