Danger – Danger! We’re constantly assailed by food scares. There’s hardly a day goes by without a new scare about some everyday foodstuff. Yet in reality our food has never been safer. Most of the scares are caused by misunderstandings, but there are some unlikely things we should be worried about. This lecture explores the amazing ways in which your food can harm and even kill you. John Krebs examines the allergens, moulds, fungi, bacteria and toxins that could cause you serious mischief. And we reveal the biggest single hazard of all – the one risk that’s not controlled: you – and how you directly affect the safety of the food you consume.
