The ballot process

Applications
To attend the CHRISTMAS LECTURES in the theatre:

  • Adults must be accompanied by at least one junior ticket holder
  • Juniors (young people) must be aged 11-17 years old (proof of age may be requested)

If they cannot prove they are 11 or above on the night of the Lecture, they will not be admitted to the theatre and no refund will be given. People under 11 will NOT be admitted to the theatre.

Successful applicants will be allocated tickets to one Lecture only, based on their first available preference.
Note that if there are multiple Ri Members at the same address, each Ri Member can apply for a different Lecture day. We cannot guarantee you will be successful in securing tickets. Tickets will be allocated according to preference and availability.

Schools
For the purposes of the CHRISTMAS LECTURES ballot, schools are defined as educational establishments listed by the UK government. This is defined by the government’s Edubase database in England and Wales, the Education Scotland database and the DENI database in Northern Ireland.

Mistakes
Any errors made by you are your responsibility and the Ri will not be held responsible for any inconvenience caused by the entering of incorrect Lecture dates or ticket numbers, and/or supply of incorrect personal information, nor will we offer refunds on any accidental purchases made. It is your responsibility to check this information before you submit your application and provide payment.

Applications made on behalf of a party of people
If you are applying on behalf of a party, you accept these terms and conditions on behalf of all members of your party and are responsible for all payments due from the party.

Payment
Successful applicants will be given one week to make payment. If payment is not made, your ballot application will be cancelled and the tickets reallocated. All payments will be taken by credit/debit card.

Attending the CHRISTMAS LECTURES

Cancellations
As the CHRISTMAS LECTURES are extremely popular, if you are unable to attend the Lecture we would be grateful if you could return your unwanted ticket(s) to us so that we can re-allocate the seats.

We will only issue a refund if we receive notification and the unwanted tickets at least two weeks before the Lecture date. Please note that this supersedes the Ri’s normal cancellation conditions. A £2.00 administration charge per ticket may be deducted for any refund given.

Event changes
The Ri reserves the right to make any alterations to speakers, event content, event timing and/or event venue, and will make reasonable efforts to contact audience members to inform them of any changes. The Ri will not be held liable for any changes made to the advertised event.

Seating
Juniors and adults are seated separately for the CHRISTMAS LECTURES, with juniors seated downstairs and adults in the gallery. The events team will only seat adults downstairs under exceptional circumstances. Seats are not numbered and the events team will allocate the seats.

Please note that the production crew may, for operational reasons, need to move people to different locations in the theatre on the day, but we will try to keep such changes to a minimum.

Filming
Ticket holders consent to filming and sound recording as members of the audience. School parties should ensure that appropriate parental permission is obtained before attendance. The unauthorised use of photographic, sound or film equipment in the venue is strictly prohibited. Unauthorised recording may result in the tape or film being destroyed, and your removal from the event without a ticket refund.

Special Requirements
Hopefully you will have informed us at the time of booking of any particular requirements that you or your party may have, i.e. for wheelchair access or any disabilities. If you haven’t yet, please contact us as soon as possible at xmaslecs@ri.ac.uk or call +44 (0)20 7409 2992. We need to know this information in advance so that we can ensure that we are able to accommodate you appropriately.
